MANGALURU, FEB 7: The second day of the Novena preparatory to the Relic Feast of St Anthony of Padua was marked by a solemn Eucharistic celebration held at St Anthony’s Shrine, Milagres on Saturday evening, February 07, 2026. The liturgy was centred on the theme, "Speak the truth with sincerity."

A large gathering of devotees participated in the Holy Mass, offering special prayers for the judiciary and judges of the courts.

Rev. Fr Rupesh Tauro of St Antony College, Naravi, presided over the Holy Eucharist. In his homily, Fr Tauro emphasised the spiritual and societal importance of truthfulness. "Truth is not merely a virtue but the foundation of a just society. Speaking the truth with sincerity requires courage and a clear conscience, traits that are essential for every individual, but specifically for those entrusted with dispensing justice," he noted.

Aligning with the day's theme, the liturgy included special intentions for judges and legal professionals. The congregation prayed that those in the judiciary might be guided by divine wisdom to uphold truth and deliver justice impartially to all citizens.

Rev. Fr J.B. Crasta, Director of St Anthony Ashram, Jeppu and Rev. Fr Praveen Amrith Martis, Administrator, concelebrated the Mass. Following the Holy Eucharist, the Novena prayers were led by Rev. Fr Praveen Martis. The choir, led by the Apostolic Carmel Sisters of St Agnes College, enriched the liturgy with melodious hymns, fostering a prayerful atmosphere at the shrine.

The Novena continues daily, leading up to the grand Relic Feast on February 15, 2026.

• 11:00 AM: Holy Mass in Malayalam at Milagres Shrine celebrated by Fr Sebastian
• 6:00 PM: The Main Grand Festive Mass at Milagres Shrine, presided over by Most Rev. Bernard Moras, Archbishop Emeritus of Bangalore.

MANGALURU, FEB 6, 2026: The St Anthony Ashram, Jeppu—the Mangalore Diocesan shrine and home for the poor and destitutes—commenced its preparations for the grand annual celebration of the Relic Feast of St Anthony of Padua on February 6, 2026. As the Ashram’s dedicated shrine is situated at the Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres, the festive proceedings officially began today with the hoisting of the festal flag by Very Rev. Msgr Maxim L. Noronha, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore.

The ceremony marked the start of the nine-day novena leading up to the feast. The inaugural Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr J.B. Crasta, Director of St Anthony Charitable Institutions, Rev. Fr Praveen Amrith Martis, Administrator, and Fr Nishanth Vivian Rodrigues, Assistant Director. The first day’s prayers and liturgy were offered specifically for the intentions of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC). The faithful prayed for the inspiration to use the gift of tongues to glorify God and spread His word throughout their communities.

Reflecting on the feast’s central theme, "Sanctify my Tongue" (Psalm 141:3), Msgr Maxim Noronha delivered a stirring homily. He reminded the congregation that the tongue is a sacred gift intended to glorify God and uplift others. He emphasized that the incorrupt tongue of St Anthony remains a miraculous sign, calling the faithful to shun blasphemy and instead use their words to spread peace and the Gospel.
Upon the conclusion of the Mass, Fr. Nishanth Vivian Rodrigues presided over the novena, imparting blessings upon the faithful with the sacred relics. The liturgy was beautifully accompanied by the hymns of the Urwa parish choir.

Hundreds of devotees gathered for the first day of the novena, which will continue daily at the Milagres Shrine and the Ashram in Jeppu until February 14.

Rules & Regulations

Limited Entry: Participation is strictly limited to the first 35 teams to register.

Registration: Teams must register via Google Form before January 04, 2026.

Eligibility: Parishes, Educational Institutions, Schools, Convents, or Independent Groups may participate. More than one team can register.

Team Size: Minimum 10 and Maximum 20 members per team (Including Musicians).

One Person, One Team: An individual can register/participate in only one team.

Time Limit: Strictly 4 minutes per team.

Instruments: Keyboard, Guitar, Violin (Max 3) OR 'Backing Track' (Karaoke) may be used.

Backing Track: If using a track, it must be uploaded to the same Google Form used for registration by January 10 or submitted via a USB drive before the performance.

Judging Criteria: 1. Vocal Quality/Pitch, 2. Rhythm/Tempo, 3. Harmony, 4. Diction/Clarity of Lyrics, 5. Presentation.

Song Selection: Hymns must be dedicated to St Anthony – either traditional or newly composed.

Copyright: If a newly composed hymn is performed, the rights to the hymn are automatically reserved to the Ashram.

Lyrics Submission: The hymn title and lyrics must be submitted before January 10.
